President Muizzu Highlights Close Maldives-Malaysia Links In Message To New King

NEW DELHI, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu in a congratulatory message to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim highlighted the close bonds of friendship between the two countries.
The president sent felicitations to the new King on his accession to the throne, Muizzu's office said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The President conveyed his hopes of reinvigorating the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Malaysia during His Majesty’s reign. He additionally expressed confidence that the Maldives and Malaysia can work together in various fields to strengthen engagement, benefiting the communities of both countries," it said.
The Muizzu administration sees Malaysia as a key country as it seeks to expand its international engagements.
Sultan Ibrahim was sworn in on Wednesday as the new King of Malaysia in a ceremony steeped in tradition at Istana Negara (National Palace), Kuala Lumpur.
His Majesty replaces Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, whose five-year reign as the 16th Malaysia’s King ended Tuesday.
