Kashmiris hold pro-Iran protests

Srinagar, Indian, June 25, IRNA -- Kashmiri Muslims held a protest rally to denounce the recent attack on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini and the Western meddling in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hundreds of people assembled at Alamgir Bazar square this morning under the banner of ‘Muslim Youth Forum’ to express solidarity with the Iranian nation and to show resentment to the Western propaganda campaign against the Islamic Republic following the recent presidential elections there.

Speakers at the rally condemned the brazen interference of the Western powers and distorted picture their media was presenting to the world.

Syed Saleem Geelani, a senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, in a fiery speech blasted Western countries for engineering discord in what he called was the only model Islamic state in the world.

”They failed to overthrow the Islamic system established by great Imam Khomeini by wars and sanctions,” Geelani said adding now a new war has been declared against the Islamic Republic and in this hour of trial Kashmiri nation was with their brethren in Iran.

He said that West was not against person of President Ahmadinejad but against the thriving Islamic system established by Imam Khomeini in Iran.

People present responded with the chants of ‘Down with USA, Death to Israel and Long Live Islamic Republic.

Syed Mujahid Hussain, head of Muslim Youth Forum in his speech said that the attack on the holy shrine of Imam Khomeini shows the desperation and frustration of the enemies of Islam.

”The dastardly attack on the holy shrine of late Imam who was not only the leader of Iranian nation but of entire Ummah has outraged the sentiments of Muslims across the world.”

”The attack on the shrine was the proof that even after his death Imam poses a threat to the enemies of Islam”, he said.

Mujahid said Muslims can not remain immune from what was happening in Iran as eversince the Islamic Revolution Ummah looks at Iran for guidance.

”Imperialistic forces with active involvement of Zionist usurpers have ganged up to destablise the Islamic state as they have so far failed miserably to achieve their goal of seeing an end to the Islamic Republic. Mature and resilient Iranian nation have so far withstood all pressures and foiled Zionist machinations and they will do that again, Mujahid hoped.

Placards at the rally denounced the western and Zionist backed media for their coverage of events in Iran.

Later a procession was taken out which passed through main streets of Zadibal quarter of the city.

Organisers announced that rallies to show solidarity with the Iranian nation and leadership would be held after Friday congregational prayers across Kashmir.
