Seminar on legendary Kashmiri Persian poet held in Srinagar
Srinagar, India, June 25 IRNA --- The Iranian government has offered to train 30 Kashmir University students in Persian language courses offerred in Iran.
The offer came from the Director Cultural House of Iran embassy, Abdul Hameed Ziyaee Wednesday at a two-day national seminar on Mulla Tahir Ghani, commonly known as Ghani Kashmiri, the famous Persian poet of Kashmir.
''We will train 30 students of Kashnir University (KU) and its affiliated colleges in
language course for two months in Iran,'' said Mr Ziyaee during his address at the seminar here.
''Kashmir has had close cultural ties with Iran. There are many similarities between Iranian and Kashmir culture. Iran has influenced the literature of Kashmir too,'' he said.
The Registrar Kashmir University, Prof Syed Fayaz who presided over the seminar termed the Persian language as the sweetest language. “It is the sweetness of the Persian language that has inspired the poets in Kashmir like Ghani Kashmiri,” he said. “Ghani Kashmir later earned a name in the Persian poetry in world”.
Proffessor Fayaz requested the Iranian government, especially the top varsities of the country to help Kashmir University to develop its Persian department into center of excellence.
He also urged upon the need to render the Persian languages into other languages. “This will be beneficial for the people across the world”.
On the occasion, the Kashmir University also inaugurated a three-week refresher course in Persian language. The course is sponsored by the Cultural House of the Iranian embassy in New Delhi.
The Head of the Persian Language Department, Prof M. M. Masoodi delivered the key
note address during the function.
The Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Proffessor Mushtaq Qureshi, too, spoke on the occasion and urged the Persian students of the Kashmir University to use the technological advancements to their benefit.
Proffessor Ibrahim Mohammedi of the Tehran University was the other speaker on the occasion.
The students and scholars of Kashmir University and other institutes especially from the oriental colleges of Kashmir valley participated in the function besides a large number of religious scholars.
Several publications of the department of Persian including annual journal “Danish” was released on the occasion.
A 17th century poet, Ghani Kashmiri is among the most famous Persian poets that the subcontinent has produced. He lived during the reign of Aurangzeb and died in the early years of the 18th century. Even during his lifetime his fame transcended the borders of India and he was acknowledged in Iran as one of the great masters of Persian poetry.
In India he exerted a great influence on the development of Persian and Urdu poetry and the great Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib translated more than 40 of his couplets into Urdu.
