Malaysian Referee Muhammad Nazmi To Take Charge Of Uzbekistan Versus Thailand Match
DOHA, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- National elite referee Muhammad Nazmi Nasaruddin has been chosen to officiate the 2023 Asian Cup (Round of 16) match between Uzbekistan and Thailand at the Al Janoub Stadium here on Tuesday.
Muhammad Nazmi will be assisted by two other assistant referees from Malaysia, namely Mohamad Zairul Khalil Tan and Mohd Arif Shamil Abd Rasid.
The appointment of Malaysian referees for the match between Uzbekistan and Thailand was confirmed by the Asian Cup competition’s referees technical expert from Malaysia Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh, a former World Cup referee, when contacted by Bernama, here.
In tomorrow’s match, Omar Mohamed Ahmed Hassan Alali from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be in charge of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and assisted by Khalid Saleh H Alturais from Saudi Arabia.
Thailand who are making their second consecutive appearance in the Asian Cup competition’s round of 16, will have the opportunity to become the first country from South East Asia to qualify for the quarterfinals since Indonesia has already been knocked out after a 0-4 defeat to Australia, yesterday.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan will be eyeing a fourth quarterfinal appearance and their first-ever semifinal berth.
Earlier, Muhammad Nazmi was also assisted by Mohamad Zairul and Mohd Arif when all three were given the task of officiating the final Group D match between Iraq and Vietnam which was eventually won by Iraq (3-2) while Vietnam’s Khuat Van Khang was shown a red card by the referee.
