The President of the Republic stresses to the Spanish FM the importance of joint work to consolidate and enhance relations between the two countries

Baghdad / NINA / -The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, met today, Thursday, at Baghdad Palace, with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

The President of the Republic stressed, according to a presidential statement, "the importance of joint work to consolidate and enhance relations between Iraq and Spain in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples, praising Spain's role in supporting Iraq to fight ISIS within the international coalition."

The President of the Republic indicated, "Iraq is looking forward to strengthening cooperation relations in the economic, commercial, and cultural fields, as well as antiquities, tourism, industry, and renewable energy, indicating that the Iraqi government pays special attention to establishing security and stability, and developing and consolidating relations with neighboring countries and the world."

He called on "Spanish businessmen and companies to work in Iraq and benefit from mutual expertise and Spain's experiences in the field of tourism and antiquities."

The President stressed "the necessity of international coordination in order to stop the war against the Palestinian people in Gaza, which has become a humanitarian catastrophe, stressing the necessity of working to reduce tensions in the region and prevent escalation and the expansion of crises."

Rashid pointed out, "In this context, the events in Gaza and their repercussions have begun to affect the region in general and threaten international peace and security, stressing the need for the international and European community to work to develop a road map to stop the aggression immediately and find final solutions to the Palestinian issue in a way that fulfills the demands of the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights.”

For his part, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel expressed his happiness at visiting Iraq, noting Spain's commitment to supporting the security and stability of Iraq, and working to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields.

He praised "the positive developments that Iraq is witnessing in terms of security, stability and progress in the field of services and reconstruction, expressing the desire of Spanish companies to work in Iraq."

The Spanish Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Iraqi government and people for protecting diplomatic missions, including the Spanish embassy in Baghdad./End
