Cairo, January 24 (QNA) - The 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair kicked off Wednesday with the participation of 1200 publishing houses from 70 nations, including the State of Qatar.
Held under the theme: "Creating Knowledge, Preserving the Word", the event will run until Feb. 6, with the Ministry of Culture participating in this edition to showcase the Qatari intellectual production through its diverse and new publications in a plethora of sciences such as novels, law, social and human sciences, along with stellar releases of child books.
The Ministry of Culture primarily aims to promote its digital library within the framework of promoting cultural and intellectual communication, as there are a host of Qatari publishing houses participating in this fair, namely Dar Al Watad for Publishing and Distribution, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press, and Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
Norway is the guest of honor this year whose supreme committee selected the late Egyptologist Selim Hassan as the key figure of this edition, alongside the Egyptian children's writer Yacoub El-Sharouni as the figure for the children's pavilion.
The fair features 550 events with the cultural program comprising conferences and activities on a contingent of intellectuals and thinkers of Arabic culture. (QNA)
