Nadal Leads List of Stars Participating in Qatar ExxonMobil Open Tennis

 
Doha, January 23 (QNA) - The Qatar Tennis Federation announced the participation of Spanish star Rafael Nadal in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open Tennis Championship, which will be held from Feb. 19 to 24 in Doha. The Spanish star, who is making a long-awaited return to the court after being forced to miss this year's edition of the Australian Open Tennis Championship due to a minor muscle tear, won his only title in Doha in 2014 when he beat France's Gael Monfils while finishing second in the 2016 edition of the tournament after losing the final to Serbia's Novak Djokovic. In addition to Nadal, who won 22 Grand Slam titles, the tournament will witness the return of world number three Daniil Medvedev to defend his title, in addition to world number five Andrey Rublev and former world number one, British Andy Murray. The tournament, which has a total prize pool of $1,395,875 and is held in the 250-point category, will feature 28 players in the singles competitions, in addition to 16 teams in the doubles competitions. The tournament director Karim Alami expressed his delight to announce the return of Rafael Nadal to the court again through the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open Tennis 2024. It is always great that Doha welcomes the great Spanish star to its stadiums. In this tournament, which has seen his brilliance in the past editions, where Nadal has an exceptional fan base who are eager to see him again. The participation of Nadal will add more momentum to the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open Tennis Championship and the world of tennis in general. On the other hand, Alami expressed his gratitude to Exxon Mobil, the title sponsor, the rest of the other sponsoring companies, and all the institutions and government agencies concerned for their great support to the Union tournaments over the past years and their contribution, especially in the success of the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open Tennis Championship and reaching a prestigious international status. The Secretary General of Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation and Vice-President of the Asian Tennis Federation, Tariq Zainal, expressed his happiness with the return of the world star Rafael Nadal to participate again in the Doha tournament to lead the large constellation of players participating in this new edition of the tournament. He said they are delighted that world star Rafael Nadal is participating in this prestigious tournament. Doha has always been synonymous with the highest levels of tennis so it was no surprise that the tournament has seen the participation of many stars since its inception in 1993. The Qatar ExxonMobil Open Men's Tennis Championship has been awarded the Best Tournament in the 250-point category on five occasions (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022). (QNA)
