The President Of The Republic To The Turkish Intelligence Chief: We Respect The Sovereignty Of States And Reject Unilateral Actions That Undermine Security And Peace

Baghdad / NINA /- The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the importance of coordination and consultation with the Turkish side in security aspects, especially in the field of combating terrorism.

 

A presidential statement said: “The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Monday, at Baghdad Palace, the head of the Turkish Intelligence Service, Ibrahim Kalin, and his accompanying delegation.”

 

The President of the Republic received at the beginning of the meeting, through the head of the Intelligence Service, the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while President Rashid sent his greetings to the Turkish President and his wishes to the Turkish people for further progress and prosperity.

 

During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them were reviewed, and the President stressed the importance of coordination and consultation in security aspects, especially in the field of combating terrorism, in a way that consolidates security and stability in the region and brings goodness and peace to all peoples.

 

The President of the Republic pointed to the commonalities that bind the two countries in the historical, economic, commercial and cultural fields, stressing the importance of adopting dialogue to resolve the outstanding issues and matters between the two countries, which enjoy great natural and human resources, which should be invested in order to achieve comprehensive development and prosperity.

 

Regarding the water issue, the President stressed the need for an agreement between the two sides to solve the water problem instead of the intermittent water releases that Turkey makes from time to time, pointing out: “The population is constantly increasing and the need for water is constantly rising in accordance with the population increase, climate changes, and the increasing areas of desertification.” ", expressing his hope for joint work and understanding regarding the actual need of Iraq and Turkey for water to meet basic needs, as well as knowledge of the nature of the projects being established on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

 

The President of the Republic spoke about the conditions that Iraq went through, including wars, sieges, terrorism, and the sacrifices made for a democratic Iraq, stressing: “There is a priority for the government in maintaining and consolidating security and stability, despite some violations inside and outside Iraq.”

 

He pointed out: “Iraq works with its friends and neighbors to respect the sovereignty and independent decision-making of countries and to reach understandings about border security with neighbors, and rejects unilateral actions that undermine security and peace.”

 

The President of the Republic touched on the violations being exposed to Sulaymaniyah Governorate and other cities and their negative impact on relations between the two countries, which requires decisive treatment within the principles of respect for the country’s sovereignty and the security of its citizens.

 

Regarding the situation in Palestine, he affirmed Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people to achieve their rights and stand with them in the face of the ongoing aggression, noting that the aggression must be stopped immediately and the international community must bear its responsibilities in protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian aid.

 

For his part, the head of the Turkish Intelligence Service expressed his country's support for the security and stability of Iraq, and aspiration to strengthen cooperation relations, especially in the areas of security and fighting ISIS and terrorist organizations, stressing: "President Erdogan is looking forward to visiting Iraq, but his visit was postponed due to the situation in the Gaza Strip."

 

He pointed out that his country is working to develop the projects that were previously signed between the two countries, especially in the field of transportation. He also stressed that his country is keen for Iraq to obtain a water share, and there are joint committees on this issue, expressing his hope to work together to resolve this issue./End
