Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, January 21 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials Sunday Qatar's keenness to be an active member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and to uphold its commitment to contribute effectively to achieving the Movement's goals, principles, unity and constructive cooperation.
The Qatari dailies underlined that Qatar's participation in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement affirmed its firm position on supporting just causes, and its effective role in settling disputes and conflicts through multilateral international action, in order to achieve peace, security, stability and development for peoples of the world.
In its editorial entitled "Qatar.. Active NAM Member", Al-Sharq said that the State of Qatar is keen to be an active member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and upholds its commitment to an influential and effective contribution that serves the Movement’s goals, principles, unity and constructive cooperation.
Through its participation in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the State of Qatar renewed its commitment to achieving a world of equality, justice and stability, in line Doha’s principles, policies and orientations at the international level, Al-Sharq said.
The paper noted the assertion of HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi during the 19th NAM Summit that Qatar is keen to be an active and positive member of the international community, and maintains close bilateral relations, especially with the member states of the international groups, including the Non-Aligned Movement.
Al-Sharq noted that the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement was an opportunity for Qatar to reaffirm its position on the Palestinian issue and its demand for a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement on the basis of international law, international legitimacy and the two-state solution; and to renew its call to work to stop the heinous massacres, protect the Palestinian people and secure their basic needs, and prevent attempts to displace them from their land and deprive them of their rights.
In conclusion, Al-Sharq pointed to the important role carried out by the Non-Aligned Movement in promoting an international system in which multilateralism has a greater role, and revitalizing international organizations, especially the United Nations, to make them more transparent, effective and democratic; stressing Qatar's keenness on supporting and promoting the multilateral action to address current issues and challenges that threaten global peace and security, and to build a more equal, resilient and sustainable world.
For its part, Al-Watan said that the Non-Aligned Movement, since its founding, has sought to establish an alliance of independent states and to a neutral block that is non-aligned with the international politics of the world’s great powers.
Members of the movement have affirmed their support for Palestine in many meetings, and their commitment to working with all peace-loving countries and powers to take all measures to confront Israel's continuing challenge within the framework of the United Nations, especially the Security Council, particularly to implement all necessary sanctions against Israel, the occupying power, Al-Watan noted.
The 19th NAM Summit in Kampala was another occasion to confirm solidarity with the Palestinian issue, which took up a large part of the speech made by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi who affirmed the importance of pushing towards a just, lasting and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue on the basis of international law, international legitimacy and the two-state solution - a position has always been stressed by Qatar which has also always warned that ignoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people will lead to dangerous consequences that threaten the security and stability of the region, Al-Watan said.
Since the beginning of the crisis, Qatar has swiftly moved on two tracks: providing aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza, and moving diplomatically to achieve a ceasefire. The hope is placed on all forces, movements, and organizations seeking peace to exert more pressure to stop this aggression immediately, Al-Watan concluded.
Al-Raya newspaper emphasized in its editorial that the participation of the State of Qatar in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Kampala, reflects its firm position on supporting just causes and its effective role in disputes and conflicts settlements through international multilateral action, in order to achieve peace, security, stability and development for the benefit of peoples of the world.
The paper indicated that the State of Qatar believes in the role of the NAM in revitalizing international organizations, especially the United Nations (UN), to make them more transparent, effective and democratic. In a speech during the summit, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi underlined the State of Qatar’s firm position in support of the Palestinian issue, and rejected the brutal Israeli violations of international covenants and laws, represented by the bloody Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip for more than 100 days; calling for the importance of adopting a firm position regarding the need for justice for Palestinians and condemning the massacres committed against civilians in Gaza.
Al-Raya pointed out that the State of Qatar, since the beginning of the aggression, and based on its beliefs and achievements in the field of mediation to resolve crises and disputes and its humanitarian efforts, hastened to work to achieve a humanitarian cessation of hostilities leading to a permanent ceasefire. The State of Qatar has made tireless efforts in the field of delivering humanitarian aid and releasing hundreds of civilian prisoners from both sides.
Concluding its editorial, Al-Raya emphasized that Qatar has hosted many regional and international mediations, and has been able, as a reliable mediator, to resolve many conflicts, such as its prominent role in resolving the Afghan crisis, and the Chad crisis, which resulted in the Doha Peace Agreement, and the participation of political-military movements in the comprehensive and sovereign national dialog in Chad, as a culmination of the negotiations it hosted with regional and international participation.
In another local regard, English-language newspaper The Peninsula praised the results of the Qatari team in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, as Al-Anabi is on its way to defending the continental title nearly five years after lifting the Asian Cup in 2019.
In its editorial titled "Qatar's Impressive Run at Asian Cup", the paper said that the team has been in amazing form at the tournament which started on Jan. 12, having won all the two matches played, it became the first team to qualify for the next round of tournament.
If Qatar succeeds in lifting the trophy Feb. 10, it will be joining the exclusive ranks of back-to-back winners of the competition, a list that so far has south Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Japan, The Peninsula concluded. (QNA)
