Taiwan Invites Malaysians To Apply For Its Scholarship Programme
PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Jan 19 (Bernama) -- Taiwan invites Malaysians to apply for various 2024 Taiwan Scholarships to further studies or learn Mandarin, as well as explore and experience life in the country known as The Heart of Asia.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Malaysia education division Director Charlin Chang said Taiwan through its Ministry of Education has been offering scholarships to Malaysians since 2004.
“Last year 69 Malaysians received the Taiwan scholarship to further their studies and learn Mandarin. This year the number is expected to increase,” she told a media conference when announcing the scholarships here, Friday.
She said Taiwan Scholarship provides each recipient tuiton and miscellaneous expenses of New Taiwan$ (NTD)40,000 (RM5,800) each semester and a monthly living allowance of NTD15,000 (RM2,200) for undergraduates and NTD20,000 (RM12,900) for post graduates. The deadline for undergraduate and postgraduate application is April 30.
Chang said the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship is offered for Mandarin learners to study at any accredited university-affiliated Language Centre in Taiwan. The recipient will be awarded a monthly stipend of NTD 25,000 (RM3,600).
The duration of the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship is either three months or six months and the application will be closed on March 31, she said. The application can be made online at https: //taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw/Apply
She said Taiwan is now ranked second Muslim-friendly country among non-Muslim nations with around 285 halal restaurants throughout the country.
During the media conference one of the recipients of 2019 Taiwan Scholarship Liyana Yamin, 31, who is now doing her PhD in Ocean Resource and Environmental Changes at National Taiwan Ocean University shared her experience studying in Taiwan.
Liyana who will be graduating end of this year said since 2019 she has hiked 60 mountains in Taiwan and cycled 212 km from Hualien to Taitung. Another scholarship receiver Izzat Zaid, 31 recipient of 2019 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship at Chinese Language Centre, National Sun Yat Sen University said she enjoyed the sea and mountain view surrounding her university in Kaohsiung.
