Qatari Handball Team to Face Kuwait Tomorrow in the Asian Championship

Manama, January 15 (QNA) - The Qatari handball team will meet Kuwait team tomorrow at the conclusion of the group stage of the 21st edition of the Asian Men's Handball Championship, currently held in Bahrain and continues until Jan. 25. The match will determine the first and second of the first group after the two teams secured their places in the main round. The Qatari team won their first match against Chinese Taipei 33-26, and in the second match defeated Oman 28-18. The tournament features 16 teams divided into four groups, with Group A comprising Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Chinese Taipei, Group B comprising teams from Iran, South Korea, China and New Zealand, Group C comprising teams from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, India and Japan, and Group D comprising teams from Bahrain, the UAE, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan. The first and second place finishers from each group will qualify for the main round, and the eight qualifying teams will be distributed into two groups with four teams in each group, with the first and second places advancing to the semi-finals in addition to qualifying directly to the World Championship. The Qatari handball team is looking forward to maintaining the Asian title they won in the last five editions in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022, and ensuring participation in the World Championship for the tenth time in its history after Portugal 2003, Tunisia 2005, Germany 2007, Spain 2013, Qatar 2015, France 2017, Germany and Denmark 2019 and Egypt 2021, and Poland and Sweden 2023. Obtaining second place in the Qatar 2015 edition was their best result in the history of their participation. Qatari were crowned champions of the twentieth edition of the Asian Men's Handball Championship, which was held in Saudi Arabia in 2022, after winning the final match over Bahrain 29-24. (QNA)
