AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023: Qatar's Al Haydos is Most Capped Player

Kuala Lumpur, January 05 (QNA) - Following the approval of the official lists of the 24 national teams participating in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 held from Jan. 12 until Feb. 10, 2024, the Asian Football Confederation announced the list of the most capped players in international matches ahead of the continental event, as well as relevant numbers from the final lists.
Hassan Al Haydos has 175 appearances for Qatar under his belt, making him the most-capped player in the tournament. The Al Sadd forward, who captained his side to the AFC Asian Cup title on home soil in 2019, will be making his fourth appearance in the competition at 34 years old, having also featured in the 2011 and 2015 editions. The evergreen Sunil Chhetri comes in second with 145 appearances for India, while the Islamic Republic of Iran's Ehsan Hajisafi has 132 caps.
As for the most appearances in the Asian Cup finals, Japan's Yuto Nagatomo holds the record with 16 appearances.
India's Sunil Chhetri tops the list of most international goal scorers for his country, with 93 international goals. He was followed by Ali Mabkhout of the UAE, with a total of 85 goals, while Sardar Azmoun of Iran scored 49 goals.
The report also touched on a list of the youngest players and promising young talents who are expected to leave their mark in the tournament hosted by Qatar. Among the rising stars, Beknaz Almazbekov from Kyrgyzstan is considered the youngest player at the age of 18 years and six months, then comes Iraqi Montazer Majed who is two months older than Beknaz, while Indonesian Marselino Ferdinan, born September 9, 2004, is the third youngest player.
Thai goalkeeper Siwarak Tedsungnoen came at the top of the list of the oldest players in the tournament, as the Buriram United goalkeeper was born on April 20, 1984. He will be approaching his fortieth year when the tournament begins on January 12, followed directly by Indian Sunil Chhetri, who is only four months younger than him, and then the Bahraini Sayed Jaafar who will soon turn 38 years old.
