AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023: 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum Holds Symposium on Qatar's Participation in Asia's Most Prestigious Soccer Event

 

Doha, December 20 (QNA) - 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum organized Wednesday a symposium to mark Qatar’s hosting of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 scheduled to run from Jan. 12 to Feb. 10, 2024.
    The symposium also celebrated the 43rd anniversary of Qatar’s participation in the continent's most prominent soccer tournament. 
    Previously, Qatar staged this event twice in 1988 and 2011.  
    Doha won the honor of hosting the Asian Cup for the second time in 12 years after (2011) and the third in its history, after organizing the 1988 edition, as Doha will be on a new date with writing new lines of successes after its historic hosting of the 2022 World Cup.
    During the symposium, retired athletes spoke about the timetable for Qatar's participation in the tournament since the 1980 edition. 
    In an opening speech, Director of the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Abdulla Al Mulla highlighted Qatar's hosting of many continental and international championships.
    HE President of the Qatar Press Center, Saad bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi said football fans will be on a date with heavy-caliber matches in the 18th AFC Asian Cup tournament, a year after Qatar organized the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.  
    For the first time, the tournament will feature 24 teams on World Cup venues, His Excellency said.   
    His Excellency added that GCC teams achieved dazzling successes in previous editions, with Kuwait clenching the title in 1980; Saudi Arabia in 1984, 1988, and 1996; Iraq in 2007, and Qatar in 2019. (QNA)
