Qatar Participates in 39th COMCEC Session

 

Doha, December 06 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the meetings of the 39th Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), which was held under the chairmanship of HE President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul recently.
    The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, in a statement, that the participation of the State of Qatar in the meetings of the 39th Session of COMCEC comes within the framework of its commitment to continuous cooperation and consolidation of bilateral relations with all member states of the organization.
      During his participation in the ministerial meeting of the COMCEC, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater delivered a speech on behalf of the Arab group in the opening session, in which he commended the efforts of the Republic of Turkiye to advance joint Islamic action and implement the COMCEC strategy and the ten-year work program (2016-2025). He pointed out that this meeting is being held in light of geo-strategic developments that have greatly affected the performance of the global economy, requiring the Islamic nation to further cooperate and consolidate the bonds of economic and trade cooperation under the umbrella of the COMCEC with the aim of advancing joint Islamic action and enhancing intra-trade among the member states of the organization.
    He also expressed his aspiration that this meeting would contribute to launching initiatives and building a common understanding that would enable the effective participation of all member states by including the ten-year plan of action of the OIC, which aims to raise the share of intra-regional trade to 25 percent by 2025.
    In the context of the economic policies of the State of Qatar, His Excellency stressed that Qatar has succeeded, through the economic diversification strategy that the state has been pursuing for years in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030, in supporting vital economic sectors, supporting and encouraging entrepreneurship, and advancing the small and medium enterprises sector, which has enabled it to become one of the strongest economies in the world.
    During the session, the COMCEC Strategy Implementation Report and a review of the Executive Program of OIC for the period (2016/2025) were discussed, where the General Secretariat submitted a report on the progress made and recent developments regarding the implementation of the OIC Document 2025: Executive Program.
    The meeting also discussed global economic developments, with particular reference to the OIC member states, in addition to discussing a number of topics, including deepening financial cooperation between member states, improving transportation and communications, working to develop the tourism sector, increasing agricultural production and continuing to maintain food security, and cooperation in the field of digital transformation, as well as exchanging views on improving the capacity of e-commerce among countries of the Islamic world. The meeting also discussed a number of topics related to intra-trade among the OIC member states.
    Heads of delegations participating in the meeting discussed many topics of common interest, including the ways to improve the role of the private sector in economic cooperation among member states, and in this regard, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture presented its report on the recent developments of the private sector meetings.
    It is noteworthy that the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC), which was established in 1981, is the primary platform for multilateral economic and commercial cooperation in the Islamic world. (QNA)
