World Media Summit Begins in Guangzhou-China with QNA Participation

Guangzhou-China, December 03 (QNA) - The 5th World Media Summit (WMS) kicked off on Sunday in southern China's city of Guangzhou, with over 450 participants from 101 countries. Qatar News Agency (QNA) is participating in WMS with a delegation headed by HE QNA Director-General Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi. Themed "Boosting Global Confidence, Promoting Media Development" the fifth World Media Summit will run through Dec. 8. President of China's news agency (Xinhua) ) Fu Hua delivered a speech at the opening of the summit, in which he focused on the importance of strengthening relations and discovering opportunities between media outlets in various countries of the world. In remarks to Xinhua on the margin of the WMS, HE QNA Director-General Ahmed Saeed Al Rumaihi said that global media needs to demonstrate a sense of responsibility in serving the public interest, striving to create a positive, healthy, and cohesive public opinion environment, emphasizing the media's vital role in disseminating information and raising awareness. He added that media plays a foundational and multifaceted role in addressing global issues and ensuring public enlightenment. "This role includes monitoring events, disseminating information, analyzing problems, and promoting discussions, in addition to enriching the analysis by providing analyzes and articles that contribute to a deeper understanding of global issues, and presenting multiple perspectives," he said. It is worth mentioning that 3rd WMS, which was held in Doha 2016 under the theme "The Future of News and News Organizations", discussed important media-related issues, including the impact of technology on the news transmission process, sustainable strategies for media work, and the protection of journalists, as well as the ever-changing requirements of audiences around the world. The in-depth exchange of views between the summit participants played a positive role in expanding the common base between news media and journalists in countries with different systems and experiences. The first WMS was held in the Chinese capital, Beijing, in 2009 under Xinhua sponsorship, while the 2nd WMS was held 2012 in Moscow, under Itar-Tass news agency sponsorship, the third WMS was held 2016 in Doha, under Al Jazeera Media Network's sponsorship, and the 4th WMS was held 2021 in Beijing.
