Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, November 26 (QNA) - In their editorials on Sunday, Qatari newspapers highlighted the State of Qatar's humanitarian and developmental support for the Gaza Strip over the years to improve the deteriorating living conditions there as a result of the ongoing siege.
The newspapers also warned of the horrific humanitarian tragedy revealed by the existing pause in Gaza, indicating atrocities committed by the occupation forces during their aggression.
The Qatari dailies called on the international community to intervene through all available means to transform the temporary ceasefire into a permanent one. This is seen as essential for addressing the destructive effects of this aggression, including treating the wounded and finding shelter for the displaced.
Under the headline "Historical Qatari Commitment to Support Palestinian People," Al-Raya newspaper said that Qatar has a historical commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and those affected in Gaza. It has significantly contributed to alleviating the financial hardship and numerous crises faced by the people of Gaza.
Within the framework of the State’s continued support for the Palestinian people and its full support for them, two Qatari Armed Forces planes headed on Saturday to the city of Arish in the Arab Republic of Egypt, carrying 46 tons of aid, including six ambulances and food supplies, the paper said.
The paper pointed out that the pause entered its second day in besieged Gaza Strip yesterday, and simultaneously, trucks carrying relief aid and fuel continue to flow at an increased pace through the Rafah border crossing, adding that the four-day humanitarian pause, subject to extension, allows the entry of more humanitarian convoys and relief aid, including fuel for humanitarian needs.
In conclusion, Al-Raya said that on Friday, the first phase of the agreement was successfully implemented, as the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majid bin Mohammed Al Ansari announced that the first batch of freed Palestinian prisoners and Israeli hostages have been reunited with their families, and that the first 39 Palestinian women and children have been released from Israeli prisons and reunited with their families.
Meanwhile, Al-Watan said that the ongoing pause in the Gaza Strip has revealed a horrific humanitarian tragedy committed by the occupation forces during their aggression. This necessitates the international community's intervention through all available means to transform the temporary ceasefire into a permanent one. This is crucial for addressing the destructive effects of this aggression, including the treatment of the wounded, finding shelter for the displaced, and burying the martyrs whose bodies remain under the rubble.
In its editorial titled "Towards Sustainable Peace", the paper underlined that more than half of the buildings in the Gaza Strip are either completely demolished or unfit for habitation, pointing out that when Israelis repeatedly announce on every occasion that they are ready to resume the aggression after the end of the current pause or any other extended pauses, constitutes an insult to the entire international community through this reckless disregard for human life.
The newspaper emphasized that the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip need a permanent ceasefire in order to heal their countless wounds. They also urgently need assistance that includes food, medicine, and shelter. Additionally, there is a need for the rehabilitation of hospitals destroyed by the occupation to treat the tens of thousands of wounded. School rehabilitation is also crucial to enable students to resume their studies. Any delay in these efforts implies a death sentence for hundreds of thousands of people.
Al-Watan concluded its editorials by saying that US President Joe Biden has affirmed that there is a real chance to extend the humanitarian pauses in Gaza, especially after the release of the first batch of hostages. He also emphasized that the pause in the fighting brings a critical opportunity to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In its editorial titled "Qatari efforts to succeed the Pause", Al-Sharq newspaper said that the State of Qatar continues its tireless diplomatic efforts to achieve the terms of the humanitarian pause in Gaza, conducting intensive communications in order to ensure the safe arrival of the captives to their final destination and the cessation of fire.
The Qatari diplomacy works to ensure commitment to implementing the terms of the humanitarian pause, and continues its efforts as a mediator to convey messages between the parties to ensure the positive progress of the agreement. The State of Qatar is also committed to maintaining channels of communication with all parties in order to ensure that the safe arrival of captives, so that the success of this pause be an incentive to extend it and stop the war permanently, Al-Sharq said.
In conjunction with these efforts, the flow of trucks loaded with relief materials and fuel continues at a greater pace through Rafah crossing. Yesterday, two more Qatari Armed Forces aircraft headed to the Egyptian city of Al-Arish, carrying 46 tons of aid, including six ambulances and foodstuffs, provided by Qatar Fund for Development and the Ministry of Public Health, bringing the number of planes carrying aid to Gaza to 16 and the total aid up to 579, Al-Sharq added.
The international community and its relevant institutions must work for a sustainable ceasefire, open safe corridors for a rapid delivery of aid to prevent the current famine and the spread of epidemics, Al-Sharq stressed.
Commenting on another topic, English daily The Peninsula said it has been one year since Qatar delivered the best-ever FIFA World Cup in history, with the memories of one of the most successful sports events on the planet still fresh in the minds of players, officials and fans. Qatar by hosting a blockbuster World Cup proved its mettle opening the passage for the rest of the countries in the region to host top-notch competitions in the future.
In its editorial titled "Recalling Resounding Success", The Peninsula said that the tournament, taking place for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world, was actually a complete package of how the World Cups should be with Qatari organizers displaying their prowess by organizing the tournament smoothly hosting over a million fans from across the world flawlessly.
Qatar is now confident of carrying the World Cup legacy forward as it looks to continue hosting major events with the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 up first. The 24-team tournament scheduled from January 12 to February 10, 2024 will be held at eight venues including the six stadiums which hosted the World Cup matches, the paper said. (QNA)
