Malaysians Stand In Solidarity With People Of Palestine

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- In the name of solidarity, Malaysians from all walks of life ON Friday gathered at the National Mosque grounds here, to express their condemnation of Israel’s continuous oppression and domination against the Palestinian people in their homeland.
The rally held after Friday prayers was attended by over 1,000 people, including leaders of political parties, both from the government and the opposition bloc.
Similar rallies were held in the federal capital at the compounds of Lembaga Tabung Haji Mosque, Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque, the Palestine Embassy in Taman U-Thant and Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque at the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
Apart from speeches by the leaders, shouts of ‘Long Live Palestine, Destroy Israel’ were heard as the protestors waved Palestinian flags and 'We Stand With Palestine' banners in a show of solidarity with Muslims in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali expressed his appreciation to the people and government of Malaysia for the high degree of support and solidarity shown towards the country.
"We appreciate Malaysia's government and the King's speech was also clear. We also appreciate the people of Malaysia for always being with Palestine," he said.
Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid representing the non-governmental organisation (NGO) coalition, later handed over a memorandum rejecting United States support for Israel at the US Embassy in Jalan Tun Razak, here.
Non-Muslims also showed their support at rallies held at several locations namely Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque, Ipoh Perak; Puteri Harbour, Johor Bharu, Johor; and Rusila Mosque, Marang, Terengganu.
