Police urge Moran witnesses to speak
Police have urged nervous witnesses who have any information about the murder of
gangland figure Des Moran to come forward.
A police information caravan will be set up on Monday in the Ascot Vale shopping
strip where Mr Moran was gunned down at a cafe earlier this week.
"For a number of reasons witnesses may not have felt comfortable speaking to police
on the day or they could believe that their information is insignificant," Purana
Taskforce Detective Senior Constable Steve Reidy said.
"However, any information, no matter how small or insignificant you may think it is,
could be crucial."
Passing motorists are one example of potential witnesses who may not yet have spoken
to police, Det Snr Const Reidy said.
Police are appealing for more information from witnesses who saw Moran, 60, shot
dead at his favourite cafe, the Ascot Pasta and Deli Cafe, at about noon (AEST) on
Monday.
Geoffrey Armour, 43, his girlfriend Suzanne Kane and Mr Moran's sister-in-law Judy
Moran have been charged over Monday's shooting.
Armour was charged with carrying out the murder but police believe there were two
gunmen.
He had been under surveillance since a botched attempt on Mr Moran's life in March.
Police have admitted they lost contact with the "targets" of their surveillance
shortly before Mr Moran was shot dead.
Police allege they saw Judy Moran dump a car fitting the description of the getaway
vehicle late on Monday night.
They allege the car contained a rifle and they found more guns at her home and heard
her have a conversation via a planted bug about disposing of "items".
Police believe Mr Moran's killing may be related to a dispute over finances
involving Judy Moran's slain husband Lewis Moran, Des' brother.
Investigations also continue into a fire that destroyed part of Judy Moran's home on
Tuesday night, with no one arrested yet.
