Kyrgyzstan plans to ban plastic bags

Bishkek, June 14, 2023. / Kabar /. The transition from plastic bags to paper bags will be phased in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev said.

He said that the Cabinet of Ministers is preparing an appropriate draft resolution and other regulatory legal acts.

“From the moment they enter into force, a period of phased restrictive measures on the use of polyethylene products will be determined,” Torobaev said.

He noted that in order to preserve and protect the ecosystem of Issyk-Kul Lake, the president of the country signed the Decree of the Kyrgyz Republic “On urgent measures to preserve the ecology of Issyk-Kul Lake”. Also, the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh approved in the second reading the draft law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On limiting the circulation of plastic film bags in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic”.
