Iran-Russia presidents call for expansion of bilateral ties

Iran and Russia presidents in a meeting on Tuesday exchanged views on ways of expanding bilateral ties as well as on the most important regional and international issues.

On the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit meeting in Russia on Tuesday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President Dmitri Medvedev met with each other.
In the meeting, Iran’s president said Tehran and Moscow are natural allies adding that " we have to appreciate such an opportunity and take advantage of the existing capacities in favor of national interests of both nations."
Ahmadinejad underlined that the world is on the eve of a huge development adding that the development should be wisely managed.
"Economic and political situations have prepared Iran and Russia to affect world developments," he said.
President Ahmadinejad by appreciating Russia for holding successful meeting of SCO summit, invited President Medvedev to pay an official visit to Iran.
President Medvedev, by expressing his pleasure over President Ahmadinejad's presence in the SCO meeting and congratulating him on his re-election, expressed hope that bilateral cooperation can be expanded more and more.
The Russian president said that Iran and Russia are two effective countries in the region and in the world adding that Tehran and Moscow should play their roles in the international arena.
