Ahmadinejad in Russia

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad heading a delegation arrived in the Yekaterinburg Airport in Russia.

President Ahmadinejad is going to participate at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit which will be opened at 10 a.m. local time in Yekaterinburg.

Ahmadinejad and his entourage were officially welcomed by a number of Russian officials and staff of the Iranian Embassy in Russia.

High ranking Iranian officials including Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, Vice President and head of the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei and Minister of Information Gholamhossein Mohseni Ezhei are accompanying the Iranian president.

The president is going to take part at the SCO summit as an observer and is also scheduled to address the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Iranian president is going to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev on the sidelines of the SCO summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in the year 1991 by the leaders of Russia and China.

Iran was accepted as the SCO observer member in the year 2005.

The previous summit of the organization was held late last summer in Tajikistan’s capital city, Dushanbe.
