Berlin says seven Germans missing in Yemen


Berlin, Jun 15, IRNA - Germany's Foreign Ministry confirmed here Sunday earlier media reports that seven Germans had been missing in northwestern Yemen.
A foreign ministry spokesman said he could not say yet whether the missing German nationals had actually been kidnapped in the conflict-ridden Yemeni province of Saada.
He added a crisis team had been set in the foreign ministry to establish contact with Yemeni authorities aimed at clarifying the situation.
According to Yemeni news reports, seven Germans, a British engineer and a South Korean teacher have been kidnapped in the Saada province.
Yemen's official news agency Saba reported earlier that a German medical appliances engineer, his wife and their three children and two German nurses as well as a British engineer and a female teacher from South Korea were abducted on Friday by
an unknown group.
Yemen has in the past been the scene of numerous kidnappings of German nationals, among them former German deputy foreign minister Juergen Chrobog and his family.
