Gordon Ramsay eats humble pie

He admits he behaved like a "petulant teenager", so it's fitting that TV chef Gordon
Ramsay says his mum force-fed him a heaped helping of humble pie for his bake of
Tracy Grimshaw.
Ramsay said a "bollocking" from his mother, Helen, drove him to apologise to the A
Current Affair host days after allegedly describing her as a pig and insinuating she
was a lesbian, which she denies.
"I had my mum on the phone this morning," he told the Nine Network.
"When your mum rings you and it's, you know, a bollocking down the telephone, then,
of course, you start to get the picture.
"She was disgusted, and she wanted to know what actually happened."
Ramsay, who on Tuesday refused to apologise and said Grimshaw was sad and bitter,
now says he is embarrassed by the affair.
"Humble pie is something that from this day on in, is something that I will be
eating for breakfast for the rest of my life."
Ramsay said he had tried to contact Grimshaw several times on Saturday to apologise
and had ramped up his attacks on her in the manner of a "petulant teenager" when
those calls were not returned.
He said he would rather say sorry face to face, then looked into the camera and
said: "Tracy, where do I start? First of all, you have shown me great respect and
amazing support, I think, the last three or four years.
"I'd just like to take this opportunity to apologise for the stupid comments and I
am deeply mortified that the whole thing has gone this far. My apologies."
Weekend news reports said Ramsay described Grimshaw as a lesbian before an audience
of several thousand at the Melbourne Good Food and Wine Show on Saturday, the day
after he did an interview with her on Friday.
He then showed a picture of an apparently naked woman on her hands and knees, with
multiple breasts and the facial features of a pig, followed by an image of The
Muppets character Miss Piggy.
"That's Tracy Grimshaw," he allegedly said. "I had an interview with her yesterday,
holy crap. She needs to see Simon Cowell's Botox doctor."
In reply on Monday, Grimshaw branded Ramsay a bully and an "arrogant narcissist" who
made "uninformed insinuations" about her sexuality, and she told her viewers she was
not gay.
Asked on Tuesday if he understood how Grimshaw felt, Ramsay told reporters: "For me
on a personal front, to see how sad and how bitter for someone to come out like
that, for a renowned pro to come out and stoop that low, is disgusting".
In response, on Wednesday, Grimshaw said on A Current Affair she had spoken to
Ramsay before she went to air and accepted his apology.
