Health ministry confirms three news A(H1N1) cases

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) – Thailand's Public Health Ministry on Wednesday confirmed three new cases of the Influenza A (H1N1), two men returning from the US and one boy without a record of having travelled from the country.

The record of the three new cases has raised the number of the country’s H1N1 cases to 16 in total, said Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai.

Two Thai men are recovering. Both of them are 20 years old and returned home from the US on Monday and developed flu-like symptoms. Their family members and persons who had close contact with them are being closely monitored.

The other new case, the 11-year-old boy has no record of leaving the country. He remains hospitalised. The public health ministry’s Surveillance and Rapid Response Team (SRRT) has been investigating the cause of infection.

Dr. Prat Booyawongvirote, Permanent Secretary for Public Health said that earlier, H1N1 cases reported in the country were Thai travellers returning from affected areas but now, a new patient was infected with the virus in the country.

As a result, the current preventive measures must also focus on containing the spread of the virus in the country as well. He said that fast detection will help control the spread of the disease in the country. (TNA)
