Another ambulance patient gets swine flu
An ambulance patient infected with swine flu by a paramedic is Tasmania's 10th case
of the virus.
Director of Public Health Chrissie Pickin said the patient, from the state's
northwest, was infected by the paramedic before it became obvious that the officer
was ill.
"Unfortunately, we believe transmission of the virus would have occurred before we
became aware of the paramedic's situation," she said.
Authorities have so far linked swine flu infections in three ambulance patients to
the sick paramedic, who contracted the virus during a trip to Melbourne.
The sick officer has also passed the virus to his paramedic partner.
Despite the infections, Dr Pickin said Tasmanians should not be deterred from
calling an ambulance in an emergency
