Thai authorities: FBI can only observe police investigation into Carradine death

BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) – American police agencies can only observe Thailand’s police investigation into the death of American actor David Carradine as it progresses, Thai officials announced on Monday.

Thai police are scheduled to meet late Monday to discuss whether the late actor’s death resulted from foul play.

Sirisak Tiyaphan, Director-General of the Office of the Attorney-General’s international affairs department, said the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) could only observe the Thai police investigation into the death of the 73-year-old actor who was found dead in his Bangkok hotel room Thursday, as the agency has no authority to participate in the probe.

He said the Office of the Attorney-General would consider allowing FBI officials to observe the investigation based on agreements made between the two countries on the condition that their presence must neither affect Thailand’s security nor the police investigation of the case, which must also not be a political offence.

Mr. Carradine was found dead in his luxury hotel room last week with no indication of a fight or struggle. His family, however, does not believe he committed suicide and has requested the FBI to help investigate his death.

He flew to Thailand last week and began work on a film called “Stretch” two days before his death.

His remains were flown to the US on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pol. Col. Somprasong Yenthuam, who is heading the investigation, said police investigators on the case will meet at 6pm Monday to determine whether the actor’s death resulted from foul play by reviewing the autopsy and other evidence. (TNA)
