Iran, Poland libraries ink deal

cooperation agreement was signed between the heads of Iranian and Poland national libraries here on Sunday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, head of Iran's National Library, Ali Akbar Ash'ari referred to the age-old ties between the two states and said that the interaction dates back to the time when Isfahan and Krakow were the capitals of Iran and Poland respectively.

Decendents of the Polish people who migrated to Iran during WII are still living in the country, he noted.

Describing ties between the libraries as ties between nations and cultures, Asha'ri added that cultural communications constitute the basis of political ties.

Heads of cultural institutes shoulder a heavy responsibility in the field, he noted.

Tomash Makovsky, for his part, said that signing the agreement is an important step towards developing a good understanding about each other.

Referring to the status of Iran's National Library in the world, he added that it is one of the most significant libraries in the world and its architecture symbolizes Iranian and Islamic architecture.
