Japan Imported Auto Sales Down 20.6 Pct in May

Tokyo, June 4 (Jiji Press)--Sales of new imported vehicles in Japan
in May dropped 20.6 pct from a year before to 12,547 units, the Japan
Automobile Importers Association said Thursday.

Sales of vehicles made by foreign makers fell 19.3 pct to 11,257
units, and those produced by Japanese makers abroad sagged 30.6 pct to 1,290
units.
Car sales decreased 19.8 pct to 11,601 units and truck sales sank
30.2 pct to 945 units.
Volkswagen was the best-selling brand with sales of 2,823 units for
a market share of 22.50 pct, followed by BMW with 1,993 units for 15.88 pct
and Mercedes-Benz with 1,800 units for 14.35 pct.
