Mottaki: President Ahmadinejad invited to attend NAM summit in Cairo
– Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Monday that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has invited President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Cairo.
Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters, he said Iran is now studying the invitation and will declare its view soon.
The US administration is reported to intend to open talks with Iran after the country’s presidential elections, asked a reporter and Mottaki replied that the new US president has openly called for beginning of talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“We have advised them to take new approaches based on policy change they have promised,” he said.
If they pursue such an attitude, it means that they are determined to proceed with a practical and fruitful talks, he pointed out.
Mere talks and negotiations will not help resolve the existing problems but they should adopt a well-defined approach, underlined Mottaki.
“They have spoken of new changes and we have welcomed it and in case they keep their promises they will witness that we will do the same,“ he said.
Unity among world Muslims will be to the benefit of all Islamic states and all should be united in dealing with problems facing Muslims, he said, adding “We advised the countries in the region to promote sincere relations with their neighboring states.”
