The Arabs Face A Historic Opportunity To Reserve A Decent Position In The New World Order, If Their Mediation In Ukrainian Crisis Succeeds

Baghdad / NINA / - Managing Editor of the Middle East News Agency, an expert in regional affairs, Mahmoud Al-Shinawy, affirmed that the Arabs can reserve a decent place for themselves in the new world order if their mediation succeeds in the Ukrainian crisis. He told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): The Arabs have good diplomatic relations with all parties concerned with the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and if their mediation succeeds in urging the two conflicting countries to progress in negotiations and then reach an agreement that ends the crisis diplomatically, they will thus become a good figure in the international equation, they will hold a different position in the new world order. He added: The Arabs are among the few who still maintain good diplomatic relations with everyone, despite the diversity of the nature of that relationship according to the diversity of interests, noting that the mediation of the Arab delegation, which includes the foreign ministers of Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, Jordan and Sudan, in addition to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit may lead to more flexibility in the negotiations, since there are no historical problems between the Arabs and Russia and Ukraine. He explained: The Arab countries have already begun to realize the danger of continuing military operations on Ukrainian territory, whether in terms of the negative effects that have cast a shadow on the countries dependent on Russian and Ukrainian wheat, especially Egypt, Jordan and Yemen, or on the level of the oil-producing Gulf countries, which cannot raise the ceiling production to the point of compensating for the shortfall in Russian oil and gas supplies. Al-Shinawy pointed out that despite not disclosing the nature of the Arab delegation's mission, and whether it had a clear-cut initiative or not, the Arab move at this level is considered a trigger for the stagnant diplomatic waters, especially with the continuation of military operations without a clear vision of a political solution. The ministers of the Arab Ministerial Contact Group on the crisis in Ukraine, headed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the membership of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the foreign ministers of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, Jordan Ayman Safadi, Algeria Ramtan Lamamra and Sudan Ali Al-Sadiq held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow last Wednesday , in the context of an Arab effort approved by the League’s Ministerial Council last month to contribute to efforts to resolve the Ukrainian-Russian crisis. It is noteworthy that the Council of the League of Arab States formed this Arab Contact Committee in its regular session last month, based on a proposal submitted by Egypt./End
