The Foreign Minister Affirms Iraq's Keenness To End The Russian-Ukrainian War As Soon As Possible

Baghdad / NINA / - Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed Iraq's keenness to end the Russian-Ukrainian war as soon as possible. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "Minister Fuad Hussein met today, the ambassadors of the G7 group accredited to Iraq, in the presence of the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs Qahtan Taha Khalaf, and the Undersecretary for Administrative and Technical Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Barwari." It added, "During the meeting, the details and dimensions of the minister's upcoming visit to Moscow and Warsaw within the Arab Contact Group at the ministerial level of the League of Arab States were reviewed to follow up and conduct the necessary consultations and contacts with the parties concerned with the Russian-Ukrainian crisis with the aim of contributing to finding diplomatic solutions to the crisis and ending the existing war." The Minister affirmed Iraq's keenness to end the war as soon as possible, indicating that Iraq's position in taking neutrality is in line with the provisions of the Iraqi constitution, and it does not mean standing with one side against another, as Iraq is one of the countries that has suffered from wars throughout the past decades, and the Iraqi people have suffered from wars, sanctions and blockades, so Iraq is against any war and armed conflict between states, pointing to the importance of respecting the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations and supporting efforts aimed at ending tension and encouraging all mediation efforts in this framework. The minister explained that the Arab League initiative aims to listen to all relevant parties and exchange views in order to reach a solution aimed at calm, restraint and cease-fire, in a manner that ensures the return of stability and an end to the existing humanitarian crisis, expressing deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the Ukrainian refugee crisis and the extension of the effects of the war on the entire world, including the Middle East. For their part, the ambassadors of the accredited countries thanked the Arab initiative and Iraq's efforts within this framework to end the current conflict and end the crisis through diplomatic solutions. The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Germany, which chairs the current session of the G7, the United States of America, Japan, France, Italy, Britain and Canada./End
