Fines may be imposed on people caught violating copyright after July 1

Hanoi (VNA) – Fines up to 28,000 USD may be imposed on people caught
violating copyright after July 1.

Government Decree No 47, will come into effect on June 30 and apply to all
organisations and individuals who infringe on copyright and any related rights in
Vietnam .

The rules and fine levels are regulated specifically and compatibly with the
intellectual property law,” said Vu Manh Chu, General Director of the Copyright
Office of Vietnam, at a press conference to introduce the decree on May 20.

The decree repaired shortcomings in Decree 56 which was issued in 2006, he said.
The biggest fine it allowed was about 4,000 USD.

The maximum fines will apply to violations on work copy, art show work and
broadcasting programmes without permission from the copyright holder.

In addition to the fines, goods may be confiscated and production halts between 90
and 180 days imposed on business activities-Enditem
