Man charged over bushfire deception
Man charged over bushfire deception
A man who allegedly obtained cars and said he would repair them and donate them to
bushfire survivors has been arrested and charged with 12 offences.
Bendigo detectives on Friday charged 55-year-old Geoffrey Pearson with seven counts
of theft and five counts of obtaining property by deception.
Police allege he acquired the cars and made repairs to them under the pretence of
giving them to those affected by the Black Saturday bushfires but instead sold them
on an online auction site.
He will appear at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 18.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone in the Bendigo area who may have donated a
car or mechanical repair services to a person after the February 7 bushfires.
