ISTANBUL (A.A) - 12.05.2009 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan participated on Tuesday in the 7th meeting of the Eurasia Islamic Council in Istanbul.
Delivering a speech at the event, Erdogan said he was pleased to welcome guests from different parts of the Eurasian region, adding that Islamic civilization had left a remarkable heritage on this geography.
"Islamic culture and civilizations have given these lands knowledge, skills, morals and dignity, and respect for human beings. Unfortunately however, it is also a fact that this heritage cannot be honored in practice. We cannot explain how a true believer could claim the life of another person no matter what the intentions are," Erdogan said.
The three-day event, which is hosted by Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate General, hosts over 80 religious leaders from 42 countries as well as scholars and experts.
