Baghdad / NINA / - The Federation of Arab Journalists renewed its solidarity with the Palestinian people, and decided to send a delegation to Gaza to support its journalists and document the crimes of the occupation.
The General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab Journalists held its meeting headed by Muayyad al-Lami, President of the Federation of Arab Journalists, at the Federation's headquarters in Cairo, on Sunday. The agenda included political, professional and organizational issues, especially the situation in occupied Palestine, especially in Gaza, following the brutal aggression launched by the Zionist occupation forces.
The meeting of the General Secretariat of the Federation discussed in detail the situation in occupied Palestine in the light of the comprehensive presentation made by colleague Nasser Abu Bakr, head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, member of the General Secretariat of the Federation, through which he reviewed the details related to this aggression, as the enemy committed a real war against the Palestinian people, as the aggression focused in particular on targeting the media, from killing journalists, harassing them, arresting and imprisoning them, bombing and destroying dozens of media outlets, demolishing their homes and displacing their families.
The Federation of Arab Journalists affirmed its absolute and unconditional solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people, its steadfast support for Palestinian journalists and its unlimited support for the gigantic efforts led by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
The discussion resulted in the following decisions:
First: Coordination with the General Union of Arab Lawyers to follow up the Zionist war criminals in the international judiciary.
Second: Continuing coordination with the International Federation of Journalists regarding filing complaints against Zionist war criminals before the International Criminal Court and with the relevant international organizations.
Third: Organizing a conference in Cairo with the participation of Palestinian politicians, journalists and victims of the Israeli aggression, the International Federation of Journalists, the African Union of Journalists and Arab press organizations.
Fourth: Organizing a solidarity visit to Gaza in the short term to express solidarity, and this visit would be an occasion to announce a solidarity initiative.
On the other hand, the meeting of the General Secretariat discussed the overall press situation in the Arab countries, in these delicate circumstances that the Arab world is going through in light of the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic, as the Arab media suffered a real setback, the most prominent of which was the expulsion of journalists, the reduction of others’ wages and the reduction of working hours for another number of them, at a time when Arab journalists played important roles in achieving national mobilization, raising awareness of the danger of the pandemic, confronting false news, and convincing citizens of the legitimacy and effectiveness of the precautionary measures announced in the Arab countries, and some governments took advantage of these circumstances to further restrict the freedom of the press and journalists. In this regard, the General Union of Arab Journalists calls on Arab governments to cancel all decisions that have caused material and moral harm to Arab journalists, and to allocate public financial support to Arab media to meet the costs of the repercussions of the pandemic, and insists on the need to put an end to all prosecutions and follow-up against journalists.
The General Secretariat discussed a number of challenges facing Arab national security, at the heart of which is the issue of the Renaissance Dam, where the General Secretariat stressed its absolute support for Egypt and Sudan in the face of the unjustified intransigence of the Government of Ethiopia regarding the Renaissance Dam negotiations, which represents a threat to the right to life of the Egyptian and Sudanese brotherly peoples. The Federation of Arab Journalists calls on the Arab media to publicize the truth of the issue and the right of the two Arab peoples, which is in accordance with international conventions.
The General Secretariat also discussed the Moroccan issue and what was issued by the European Parliament regarding Ceuta and Melilla, the two Arab cities, and the Federation of Arab Journalists expressed its absolute and effective support for the Moroccan people in the face of the hostile campaign led by Spain, in which all Spanish media were used to consolidate this dangerous hostility, as it implicated the European Parliament to give, in a strange situation, a colonial character to the Moroccan cities of Ceuta and Melilla, which are occupied by that country.
During its discussion of the conditions of unions and syndicates and the situation of the Arab press, the General Federation of Arab Journalists renewed its supportive position and full solidarity with the General Union of Sudanese Journalists, which faces a solution and prosecution from the Sudanese authorities.
The Federation of Arab Journalists appreciated the Omani Journalists Association's hosting of the meetings of the General Assembly "Congress" of the International Federation of Journalists in May 2022, and stressed that this was an achievement for the Arab world and the efforts made by the Association, the Federation and the Arab bloc in the Executive Office.
It also praised the representatives of the continents who unanimously granted this opportunity to the Arabs represented by the Omani Journalists Association, reiterating its confidence in the brothers in the Sultanate, stressing that all its efforts have been harnessed to support the association in the success of this great event./ End
