Thailand confirms first two H1N1 flu cases
BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Thailand has confirmed its first two cases of H1N1 flu patients who had travelled to Mexico, according to Minister of Public Health Witthaya Kaewparadai.
Thailand is the first country of Southeast Asia region hit by the virus so far and was registered as the 31st affected country in the world by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The lab test results conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention I(CDC) in the US have confirmed the influenza Type A (H1N1) virus in samples from the two Thai flu patients.
"Both of them contracted (the disease) from Mexico," said the minister in a media conference in Bangkok.
The two have taken a course of anti-viral Oseltamivir and have now fully recovered and returned to their homes.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had earlier announced the first case, saying that the patient had fully recovered and has returned home.
The CDC confirmed that the sample sent from Thailand was H1N1 virus, the premier said.
The cases were announced just days after Thailand hosted the regional conference on the influenza A(H1N1) attended by the public health ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plus Japan, China, and South Korea. (TNA)
