Kyrgyz delegation attends UN anti-corruption session

The Kyrgyz delegation headed by Deputy Prosecutor General Abai Moldokmatov took part in the special session of the UN General Assembly against corruption on June 2-4, 2021 in New York, USA. The press service of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic said that the delegation participated in the UNGA session with the assistance of the Permanent Missions of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York and Vienna. The UN General Assembly adopted a Political Declaration on Challenges and Measures to Prevent and Combat Corruption and Strengthen international cooperation. In his speech, Moldokmatov noted Kyrgyzstan recognizes and supports the central coordinating role of the UN in the fight against corruption based on the comprehensive and universal UN Convention against Corruption, which the country ratified in 2005. In an effort to be a full-fledged member of the international system to prevent and combat corruption, Kyrgyzstan actively participates in the review mechanism of the UN Convention against Corruption and the implementation of the Istanbul Action Plan to combat corruption of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Kyrgyzstan actively participated in the drafting of the Political Declaration and welcomed its adoption during the Special Session of the UN General Assembly, expressing confidence that the document, building on the existing international architecture, will become a conceptual and working tool for improving the work of participating States to combat corruption.
