Mottaki says Iran keen on promotion of ties with Asia
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday that Tehran gave great importance to promotion of trade ties with Asian states.
Addressing a meeting on Iran-China economic cooperation, the minister said expansion of trade ties with Asian countries was one of the priorities of Iran’s foreign policy.
The one-day meeting is participated by 700 Iranian and Chinese businessmen from both private and public sectors.
Mottaki said the satisfactory amount of capital available for the Iranian and Chinese businessmen, modern technologies and skillful labor force have created remarkable opportunities for economic activities in Asia in order to achieve further industrial development.
Mottaki said that promoting trade ties with Asian states has not indicated that Tehran has neglected its ties with other parts of the world.
He stressed that striking balance to Iranian ties with all world countries was another priority of Iran’s foreign policy.
Noting that China is Iran's top trade partners in Asia, Mottaki said the trend of Tehran-Beijing trade relations showed 30-50 percent growth each year during the past couple of years.
He said that the two capitals should take further steps to enhance the level of trade.
Mottaki said that facilitating further trade relations, removing present obstacles on the way of Iran-China trade ties, establishing monitoring bodies to upgrade exports and imports standards as well as removing customs tariffs were among major steps that should be taken by the two sides to promote economic and trade relations.
Referring to China as the “biggest member of the Asian family,” Mottaki said Beijing should play a more active role in regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
He said that China and other Asian countries could play a key role in resolving the present economic crisis facing the world.
