Spring sowing carried out in 82.4 thousand hectares of land nationwide so far

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On May 18, Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry Z.Mendsaikhan made a report on the preparations and the progress of spring sowing at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Food, and Agriculture. This year in 2021, 517.8 thousand hectares of land are planned to be cultivated nationwide, including 389.3 thousand hectares for grains, 17.9 thousand hectares for potatoes, 9.6 thousand hectares for vegetables, 66.5 hectares for fodder plants, 40 thousand hectares for oil plants, and 4.3 thousand hectares for fruits and berries. As of May 17, sowing has been made to a total of 82.4 thousand hectares, of which grain in 77 thousand hectares (wheat in 75.9 thousand hectares), potatoes in 2.3 thousand hectares, vegetables in 1 thousand hectares, fodder plants in 0.1 thousand hectares, and oil plants in 1.8 thousand hectares. This year’s spring sowing was slightly delayed due to the restrictions that were set in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the weather conditions of April and May.
