Malaysia keen to expand trade ties with Iran: MP

A parliamentarian said here on Saturday that Malaysian officials are interested in expansion of economic and trade cooperation with Iran.

Jasem Sa’edi, a member of the presiding board of the Iranian Majlis (parliament), made the remarks while talking to IRNA prior to his departure from this southeastern Asian country.

The Iranian MP was in Malaysia to talk with the country’s senior officials on issues of mutual interest and attended the inaugural session of the sixth exhibition on halal (not forbidden in Islam) food.

Praising the Islamic Republic’s great potentials for exports of various kinds of goods to Malaysia, he said the Malaysian officials are in fond of Iran’s food industries products.

He added that during his meetings with several Malaysian economic officials, they were interested in making joint investments with the Islamic Republic.

Malaysia imports 95 percent of its needed milk products, the MP said, underlining the need for increase in exports of Iranian milk products to that Muslim state.

The Malaysian economic and trade officials are seriously determined to promote ties with Muslim countries, particularly the Islamic Republic, he said, stressing that Tehran is also willing to boost all-out ties with Kuala Lumpur.

Sa’edi called for establishment of branches of Iranian banks in Malaysia, saying, the move would facilitate bilateral trade ties.
