1,098 new coronavirus cases detected, death toll increases by 8

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Daily COVID-19 press briefing for today, April 27, by the Ministry of Health, reported that 1,098 new coronavirus cases were detected in the past 24 hours after 10,758 PCR tests were conducted across the country. In specific, 957 new cases were confirmed in Ulaanbaatar city, six cases are imported cases from abroad, and 135 cases were detected in rural regions, including Zavkhan, Darkhan-Uul, Orkhon, Erdenet, Uvurkhangai, Dundgobi, Khovd, Selenge and Tuv aimags. As a result, the nationwide infection tally is now 32,437, with the cases registered in the capital city reached 28,216. In the last 24 hours, 733 coronavirus patients were recovered and discharged from the hospital, making the number of COVID-19 recoveries 17,543. As of April 27, a total of 4,427 coronavirus patients are being treated at hospitals in Ulaanbaatar city and the rural aimags. Another 7,947 patients who are experiencing a mild disease are being treated at home while taking home isolation precautions. The National Center for Communicable Diseases, the primary healthcare organization in the country responding to the pandemic, also reported eight new COVID-19 related deaths, raising the country's death toll to 88. The casualties are COVID-19 patients aged between 51 and 78 years old, who were staying at hospitals in Ulaanbaatar city. With the ongoing public vaccination drive, resumed on April 24 after around the two-week break, a total of 707,838 people have received the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19, equal to 35 percent of the nationwide vaccination target – around 2 million adult populations. As of April 27, 239,971 people have gotten their second shots, which is 12 percent of the adult population. On April 26 alone, 57,277 people have been partially or fully vaccinated. Currently, Mongolia has received a total of 1,760,540 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 214,800 doses of AstraZeneca via India’s assistance and COVAX Facility, 1,500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China through donation and procurement, and 20,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine purchased from Russia and 25,740 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine via COVAX Facility. At today’s meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on Social Policy, Minister of Health S.Enkhbold made a presentation, in which he noted that the number of daily cases of coronavirus community transmission, which started surging on March 5, is likely to lower by around April 21. “As a result of the 14-day extension of the strict lockdown until May 8, the daily cases are expected to drop below 800.”
