Kyrgyzstan-initiated resolution on environmental preservation adopted at UNGA Plenary Meeting

Bishkek, April 21, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan-initiated resolution entitled "Nature knows no borders: Transbounday cooperation is a key factor in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity” was unanimously adopted at the Plenary Meeting of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the adoption of the resolution, along with the general support of all states, 60 UN member states co-sponsored Kyrgyzstan's resolution, the press service of the Kyrgyz president reported.
The main goal of the resolution is to strengthen transboundary cooperation on biodiversity conservation through joint actions to ensure a clean, safe and stable environment for future generations, while managing natural resources based on the principles of sustainable development and implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The resolution initiated by Kyrgyzstan is one of the few specialized UN documents covering transboundary cooperation between UN member states in the environmental sphere, which is now becoming increasingly relevant at the international, regional and bilateral levels.
The project received positive recommendations and support from a number of global environmental organizations, such as the UN Convention on Biodiversity, the Convention on Migratory Species, the Ramsar Convention and the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU).
The adoption of the resolution on a unanimous basis and the inclusion of 60 states among its co-sponsors is recognition of the relevance of the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic and confirmation of support of the international community in the promotion of issues of combating climate change, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
The resolution became an organic continuation of the highly appreciated successful initiatives of Kyrgyzstan in the field of ecology, such as conservation of snow leopard, sustainable development of mountain regions, establishment of the Group of Friends of Mountain Countries at the UN in New York, and other areas.
