Bishkek, April 14, 2021 . / Kabar / . In May, Kyrgyzstan will receive 420 thousand doses of COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca, Gulbara Ishenapysova, the director of the Immunoprophylaxis Center said during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She added that back in September 2020, there was an agreement to supply vaccines to the Kyrgyz Republic under the COVAX program. They should have been delivered. But when information emerged about the side effects of the vaccine, Kyrgyzstan temporarily suspended the process.
"Later, the World Health Organization (WHO) came out with an opinion that these cases were not related to the vaccine. The WHO gave this opinion twice. This is a very important document. A number of countries resumed their vaccination. COVAX has distributed vaccine supplies to the CIS countries. 660,000 doses for Uzbekistan, 420,000 doses for Kyrgyzstan and 290,000 - for Tajikistan. This will be the first phase. Then in the second stage we can give our preferences for vaccines and even choose a different vaccine," she said.
Ishenapysova noted that Kyrgyzstan expects to receive AstraZeneca vaccine in early May. COVAX has already sent consumables to the country.
On March 29, a vaccination against COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine started in Kyrgyzstan.
