Trilateral meeting of Iran, Afghanistan and UN convened in Kabul

2nd trilateral meeting of Iran, Afghanistan and United Nations aimed at seeking an effective strategy in campaign against narcotic drugs trafficking was convened here Wednesday night at IRI Embassy.

According to IRNA correspondent in Kabul, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Antonio Maria Costa, the representative of the UN Secretary General in Afghanistan Kai Ideh, IRI Ambassador to Afghanistan Fada-Hossein Maleki, the Deputy Head of Iran’s Anti-Narcotic Drug Trafficking Campaign Headquarters Taha Taheri, the Afghan Anti-Narcotic Trafficking Minister Khodaidad and his deputy Mohammad Davoud Davoud were present at the meeting.
Among the issues addressed during the meeting there were strengthening the foundations of cooperation between the two countries, fortification of Afghanistan’s police and border police forces, replacing poppy flower plantation with other agricultural products, attracting greater cooperation of the international community and transfer of Iran’s experience in campaign against narcotic drugs trafficking to that country.
The Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Maleki emphasized, “The difference between this meeting and the previous one is the presence of influential personalities at this meeting and keeping in mind the significance of the issues put forth at this session it seems as if the international community intends to have a broader cooperation in dealing with this malignant global phenomenon.”
According to him, the determination of the two countries’ officials and the strong will of the anti-narcotic and border police forces can have great influence in this respect.
