Iran, Pakistan study security measures in joint borders

Iranian and Pakistani officials on Wednesday studied measures to ensure security in the joint border between the two countries.

The meeting was held in Zahedan in presence of Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Muhammed Bux Abbasi and governor general of the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balouchestan Ali-Mohammad Azad.

The ambassador said that the Pakistani government has undertaken to extradite any Iranian insurgents arrested in the soil of Pakistan.

He said that both Iranian and Pakistani governments would exercise full cooperation to ensure peace and security in the border areas.

Abbasi said that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will visit Iran in near future aiming to review ways to boost Tehran-Islamabad relations.

He said that it would be President Zardari’s second visit to Iran indicating the importance Pakistan attaches to expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian governor general said for his part that the two countries should make efforts to improve security in the joint borders.

Azad reiterated that the two countries should make optimum use of potentials in transit of goods and passengers and strengthen border security in the region.

He said that Bam-Zahedan railway will be commissioned in the next few days.

Azad said that the railroad would be a transit link from Pakistan to Turkey and to the European countries.
