MCOT Rehabilitation Plan in 30 Days

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA) – The State Enterprise Policy Commission formed a sub-committee to consider solutions for four state enterprises and ordered the Prime Minister’s Office to work out a rehabilitation plan for MCOT in 30 days. Pantip Sripimol, director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office, said the commission chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha resolved to form the sub-committee to consider solutions for the State Railway of Thailand, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, National Telecom Plc and MCOT Plc. The sub-committee will also propose solutions by itself and follow up their implementation for the four state enterprises. After the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission had granted broadcasting licenses through bidding contests, MCOT failed to compete with other broadcasters and had organizational and financial problems. MCOT had been financially healthy and able to pay dividends. Later it posted only losses. The Prime Minister’s Office which supervised the state enterprise was ordered to present an MCOT rehabilitation plan to the sub-committee within 30 days, Mrs Pantip said. “However, MCOT has considerable assets and started to accumulate debts recently. If it is closely supervised, it should be rehabilitated quickly,” Mrs Pantip said. (TNA)
