Assad: Syria recognizes Iran’s right for nuclear energy

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said all countries have the right to access peaceful nuclear energy and such a right is guaranteed in international agreements and conventions.

In a joint press conference here with visiting President Ahmadinejad on Tuesday, President Assad said that current trend of dealing with Iran’s nuclear dossier is political, adding that Syrian and other regional governments are opposed to such a trend.
He said that western countries are trying to create doubt about Iran’s nuclear program.
"If they are honest, they should say why the Zionist regime started its military program many years ago," he said.
Expressing satisfaction over bilateral ties between Tehran and Damascus, the Syrian president called mutual ties 'expanding'.
He praised Iran’s stances in supporting the rights of the Arabs and Syria and said nations are more aware today and are moving towards their interests.
Responding to a question, the president said the two countries are pursuing their relations upon their principles and are trying to keep their national interests.
He added there exist a few differences between Iran and Syria, but they are not deep. "Our enemies are unaware about our behavior, regional developments and their details," President Al Assad said.
Referring to the important projects implemented by the two countries such as projects in the fields of water, irrigation, silo, cement and car manufacturing, President Assad said we are ready to expand ties in political and economical fields.
