Japan's PM stresses Iran's key role in stabilizing Afghanistan
Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso here Tuesday emphasized the important role of Afghanistan's neighboring countries, Iran and Pakistan, in stabilizing the war-stricken country.
Talking at a joint press briefing with Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Aso made clear that only a regional approach would restore security and stability in Afghanistan.
The Japanese official pointed also to Iran's hosting of millions of Afghan refugees.
Japan and Germany are both involved in the NATO-led military mission in Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, Aso was welcomed with full military honors at the chancellery in Berlin, as part of a three-day visit to hold talks with leaders of the European Union (EU) and Germany.
