The President of the Republic Receives The Secretary General Of The GCC

Baghdad / NINA / -The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received at the Peace Palace in Baghdad the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, and discussed with him the relations between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council. He stressed the importance of developing these relations in all fields in order to serve common interests and enhance opportunities for progress, construction and peace. A presidential statement stated that during the meeting, the importance of developing relations in all fields was emphasized in a way that serves common interests and enhances opportunities for progress, building and peace. The two sides praised the steps taken between Iraq and the Gulf Cooperation Council states in signing memoranda of understanding and agreements in the field of economy and investment in order to strengthen joint fraternal relations. The President of the Republic welcomed the success of the recent Gulf summit meeting, the signing of Al-Ula statement and the achievement of Gulf reconciliation, indicating that this would enhance the march of the Gulf Cooperation Council and its vital role, and its positive impact on security and stability throughout the region. Salih added that "the challenges that the region is going through, especially terrorism and the economic situation, constitute common challenges that require coordination of efforts to address the threat of terrorism and confront economic crises by enhancing opportunities for development and economic prosperity, pointing out that Iraq, with secured, sovereignty and relations with its Arab depth and Islamic neighborhood, represents an anchor in enhancing security, stability and development in the region. For his part, Nayef Al-Hajraf extended his thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic, stressing the commitment of the Gulf Cooperation Council to support the security and safety of Iraq and its full sovereignty and its support to confront terrorism, indicating the aspiration of the GCC countries to strengthen relations with Iraq in all fields and open horizons for joint cooperation./ End
