Iran to host NAM summit in 2012
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran will host the 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit in 2012.
Mottaki made the remarks at the end of NAM foreign ministerial meeting in Havana, Cuba on Saturday.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar were the contenders to host the NAM summit after the one to be held in Egypt, he said adding that following talks with the Qatari side, the members agreed on Iran which will also assume the chair of the movement.
The decision was welcomed by a majority of the member states, said Mottaki noting that this is considered a major achievement for Iran given its active role in international scene.
